Oh yes, it is great that millions of people can enjoy "artisan" bread. It is reassuring that a French baker was hired to consult. Questions: Is there still some magic when they knead the bread? Are a few of their secret ingredients still secret? Do you visit the corner bakery or simply buy your bread on-sale at the supermarket? I do both.

Author artisans like me shudder at this scenario: An obsessive entrepreneur wants the recognition that a NY Times Bestseller would bring. The individual turns to AI to search all the bestsellers ever written to bleed their essence and create a reader's phenomenon that will break the record for millions of books sold. The book is a thing, a commercial thing. That's all.
